The secret agent's James Bond Sunglasses can now be yours.
Barton Perreira has shifted its focus from the uncertain future of James Bond to the spy's illustrious past. Rather than banking on the next 007 chapter, the LA-based eyewear designer draws inspiration from the secret agent's iconic adventures of yesteryears for its latest sunglasses collection.
This shift follows Barton Perreira's initial foray into the Bond universe through 2021's No Time to Die. In the film, Daniel Craig's Bond sported the brand's sleek Joe model, which later became available to consumers as a limited-edition 007 Joe, complete with the agent's code number etched on its temple.
The collaboration between Barton Perreira and EON Productions, extending into 2022, unveils the 007 Legacy Collection, and James Bond Sunglasses. Marking the franchise's 60th anniversary, this ongoing line features sunglasses inspired by memorable moments from Bond's cinematic history. Launched in November 2021, the collection showcased styles reminiscent of Sean Connery in Thunderball and Christopher Walken's character, Max Zorin, in A View to a Kill.
Patty Perreira, Barton Perreira's co-founder and designer, drew inspiration from both Bond's and the villains' eyewear while delving into the Bond archives for the design process. She meticulously curated silhouettes that exuded classic and iconic vibes. The latest additions to the collection include the B Fourteen, a lightweight acetate aviator reminiscent of Sir Roger Moore's eyewear in A View to a Kill, and the Goldfinger, a sporty wrap-style model inspired by Sean Connery's shades in the film Goldfinger.
"The B Fourteen captivates me with its timeless round shape, infused with a modern touch from the titanium top bar. Our men's styles often feature classic round or rectangular silhouettes," mentions Perreira, highlighting the Moore-inspired frames. On the other hand, the Goldfinger presented an exciting opportunity for her to explore a sportier style with an elevated aesthetic. "Designing the Goldfinger allowed me to step out of my comfort zone into a more dynamic style," she adds.
While rooted in cinema, each addition to the 007 Legacy Collection has been subtly refined for contemporary wear. Perreira adjusted angles and lens axis to modernize shapes and ensure a more universal fit. Additionally, she incorporated refined details aligning with the Barton Perreira brand identity.
Anticipation for a new sequel remains high. A third installment of the 007 Legacy Collection, set for release in the fall, draws inspiration once more from Sir Roger Moore's final Bond appearance. "I'm particularly drawn to A View to a Kill. The '80s vibe is inspiring," says Perreira, echoing the excitement shared by fans of the iconic Bond era.
