Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport: Track-Exclusive Powerhouse Makes Waves at Rennsport Reunion 7.
The Rennsport Reunion 7 at Laguna Seca witnessed Porsche's unveiling of the extraordinary 911 GT3 R Rennsport, a track-focused marvel. With a seven-figure price tag, this high-performance gem showcases such radical improvements that it defies conventional competition regulations.
This iteration, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport, inherits the legacy of the modern 935, itself an evolution of the iconic 1970s race car. Crafted by the Style Porsche team, it's rooted in the 992-generation 911 GT3 R, sharing only its hood and roof with its predecessor. Every other aspect is a fresh creation. The result? A sculpted body, expanded air intakes, and notably, a colossal rear wing reminiscent of the Brumos 935/77. Not destined for the streets, this speed demon ditches traditional side-view mirrors for a digital camera system. Complementing these features are 18-inch central-locking BBS wheels cloaked in Michelin racing tires custom-designed for this model.
The interior underwent subtle enhancements, maintaining a stripped-down, race-ready ambiance with its singular seat setup. Despite its track-focused nature, it boasts modern functionalities such as status-monitoring displays, virtual mirror systems, and accents of carbon fiber. Ensuring safety, it includes a robust roll cage and other FIA-compliant safety features. To reduce weight, Porsche opted out of an air-conditioning system, relying on seat ventilation for cooling purposes.
Underneath the hood resides the same naturally aspirated 4.2-liter flat-six engine seen in the standard 911 GT3 R. Freed from the constraints of racing regulations, this powerhouse, coupled with a six-speed sequential gearbox channeling power to the rear axle, now generates an impressive 611 hp, a leap from the previous 557 hp, and revs up to 9,000 rpm. While specific performance figures weren't disclosed, Porsche hints at a top speed approximately 12 mph higher than the 911 GT3 R's 184 mph limit. Complementing this power boost are a performance-tailored chassis and suspension, five-way adjustable racing shock absorbers, and an AP aluminum monoblock racing system.
Excited? If so, acting fast might be key to securing the 911 GT3 R Rennsport. Porsche's production plans stand at just 77 units for this track-focused marvel. Yet, prepare your wallet—the car, offered in three distinct racing liveries, commands a starting price of $1,046,000, nearly double the cost of the base model.
